THE CHAIRMAN OF THE IPI KENYA HOST COMMITTEE

As chairman of the IPI Kenya Host Committee, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 52nd IPI Congress and Annual General Assembly scheduled for Nairobi next year.

Bruges cheap hotelsIt is a matter of great pride for our country to be accorded this honour and privilege for the third time since we hosted IPI in 1968 and 1981.

We have laid on a challenging set of issues for discussions centred largely on the numerous problems facing our continent.

Key among them is the perennial problem of negative reporting of Africa, not just by the Western media but, curiously, also by African journalists. It is an issue that has engaged professionals at many international fora but one that appears too complex to resolve.

The Congress offers us a distinctively opportune moment to bring our insights to the issue and share our own experiences in the general effort to dissect the problem and providing practical solutions to it.

Gent hotelsBut that is not all we shall be concerned about. We have designed discussion themes around the issues that best reflect the hopes, dreams and fears of Africa and are looking forward to providing a forum for sharing our ideas.

Nairobi with its perfect climate, the natural warmth of its people, and the exciting and dynamic developments taking place in every quarter of our capital is indeed an ideal venue for our deliberations.

When you first arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the first words you will probably hear from the first Kenyan you meet will be Jambo and Karibu. These are the Kiswahili words for Hello and Welcome.

Visiting Kenya is an experience you will not regret as you begin your safari in our beautiful country. Safari is a Kiswahili word too. It simply means journey. We hope to make your safari one of the best experiences of your life. Fabulous scenery - including the spectacular Rift valley with its dramatic gorges and millions of flamingoes - is right on Nairobi's doorstep.

For those who want to venture farther afield, we have laid on a series of tours certain to please.

Whether on a game drive in search of the Big Five - lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhinoceros - or relaxing on the shores of the palm-fringed Indian ocean at historic Mombasa or Lamu, Kenya has got the lot.
